Fantastic movie. Good movie, it was funny, it was sad, it also did a good job. for the MOST part to be historically accurate - 10-11 year olds were not asked to fight in the "Battle of Berlin" age 14 and up yes, but not little kids.
The Hitler Youth was also not done right at all, they were basically the Boy Scouts of Germany, not taught to be desensitized to war -Germany was actually one of the most civilized nations on Earth (historians still question how this all was able to happen in at that time, a VERY sophisticated Liberal nation) and while the Nazi party was pretty radical, the typical German/German boy was just like anyone else.
That's a minor gripe though because I get that this was a comedy, and they did an excellent job showing the humanity even among those like the Captain. (when he covers for Elsa)
I was very surprised to see overall how accurate the uniforms were, and how at the end they showed the elderly being shown how to defend the city, as this happened. They also showed a brief sense of the brutality of the Soviets - who raped an estimated 2.5 million German women, and murdered millions of people after the war had ended. I'm fully aware Germany did horrible things on the Eastern front, but this film is specifically about Germans.
The Gestapo was done, while for comic effect - well. Even the German military and to an extent even the SS feared them. No, they didn't have to "Heil Hitler" like that, lol it was done for comedic effect.
The acting was AMAZING, was never a fan of Scarlett but she was great. Elsa, and JoJo were both awesome as well. Though some accents were very off, such as JoJos adorable friend having an English accent lol. Oh, and Rebel Wilson can be funny! WHO KNEW. But I felt the H.Y Captain stole the show. br> I may seem like I came at this from the wrong POV. But I actually found it to be really great.

I really enjoyed Jojo Rabbit because it was hilarious most of the time, a little scary at times in certain scenes, and overall I had fun with the role of Jojo Betzler who played the role of a goofy kid but so naive at the same time. I love the character of Jojo Betzler so much, he is an adorable boy, indeed. Claps for this fantastic film.

I just imagine a young Jim carey playing hitler here his expressions would have been hilarious.

This was beautiful, the movie made me laugh and cry a lot, I saw it three times in cinema with different friends. It finally gave me a reason to talk to my father about our family and he dug up my grandfathers Hitler youth dagger from the attic. I have never met the man, I only know he was sent to the front as a teenager with other kids as young as 15. I will never know whether he was a horrible or lovely person but in the end that doesnt matter because I can still learn from it. To just be better and not fall into the same trappings that that generation fell in and be kinder to the people around me. Knowing that that is a background in our family at the same time is depressing but also fills me with a weird hope that we can get better if we make the right decisions. That we have choice.

People who watched this film : oh god, they're dancing! crying. Not only does he look like the mini version of Nick Frost, but also he talks like him. Now I'm beginning to understand why I only enjoy ONE Marvel movie. Everybody says that parts of it were ridiculous but I saw the whole thing as being through Jojo's eyes which is obvious by the fact the audience see's Hitler as well. That in mind it explains to me the exaggerated feel and why the tone seems to change after a quite obvious innocence crushing moment. It also answers the people questioning how the subject was handled by realizing this is how a boy that age would view that world and is quite eye opening rather than glorifying or insensitive.

Red Shoes did hit me hard, however last scene where army of children run to their death was as heartbreaking for me - the fact that it was more or less historically accurate really hurts me.
